The Environmental DNA Metabarcoding Project of MSU Naawan attends the 4th International Workshop for Mangrove Biodiversity Studies by eDNA Metabarcoding hosted by the University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus on March 11-19, 2023. This is sponsored by International Symposium om Environmental DNA for Conservation and Biomonitoring in Southeast Asia 2023 (ISEDCAB 2023), Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN), and Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), and co-sponsored by e-Asia Joint Research Program (e-Asia JRP) and Africa-Japan Collaborative Research (AJ-CORE).

The workshop aims to prompt the application of eDNA metabarcoding in coastal ecosystem management by training and establishing a network of eDNA researchers. The project member Dr. Nonillon M. Aspe, together with the research staff Christian Jay R. Nob and Erwin Jones A. Tucong, and Miss Joan Acaso from UPMin-PGCMin (project collaborator) are currently attending the symposium and will later proceed to the University of Nottingham with their collected water samples for DNA metabarcoding analysis. The representatives from MSU Naawan will stay in Malaysia for a week-long workshop.

This event is one great advancement in the field of research and soon will be one of the strengths of MSU Naawan in order to push forward with its aim to be a University for the community.
