With the central theme “Innovative Approaches to Enhancing Community Resilience: Strategies for Building Sustainability Against Climate Risks,” ICERD 2025 brought together scholars, researchers, practitioners, and development leaders from across the globe to exchange insights on addressing environmental challenges and promoting rural development amid growing climate uncertainties.
Dr. Castañares’ participation highlighted MSU at Naawan’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, rural empowerment, and climate-responsive research. Through engaging in plenary sessions and thematic discussions, he shared MSUN’s experiences and initiatives in climate-resilient agriculture, agroforestry systems, and community-based environmental management in Mindanao.
His attendance not only strengthened MSUN’s academic visibility on the international stage but also opened opportunities for future collaborations with institutions and organizations advancing sustainable rural development.
The ICERD 2025 conference was organized by the International Society of Environmental and Rural Development (ISERD), in cooperation with Tokyo University of Agriculture and ERECON Japan. The event featured presentations on innovative technologies, traditional knowledge systems, climate adaptation strategies, and integrated environmental policies for rural communities worldwide.
Dr. Castañares’ involvement marks another significant step in positioning MSU at Naawan as a proactive contributor to global sustainable development goals, especially in the face of climate change.
