In line with its commitment to fostering international academic collaboration and advancing interdisciplinary research, Mindanao State University at Naawan welcomed two esteemed professors from Kastamonu University, Turkey, Prof. Dr. Osman Sabri Kesbiç and Asst. Prof. Dr. Ömer Deniz, for a four-day project collaboration meeting and site visit from May 8 to 11, 2025.
The engagement commenced with a meeting focused on exploring potential research synergies in the fields of aquaculture and animal science, aligning with MSU at Naawan's academic priorities and global engagement goals. Spearheaded by Chancellor Dr. Elnor C. Roa and Dr. Rey Y. Capangpangan, Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Global Engagement, the discussions aimed to lay the foundation for joint research proposals, faculty and student exchanges, and international funding opportunities.
Field visits and cultural immersion activities in Balingoan offered the visiting professors a valuable opportunity to gain in-depth understanding of the region’s aquaculture practices, marine biodiversity, and local culture. These first-hand experiences not only enriched their appreciation of the Philippines' diverse ecosystems but also provided crucial insights that will inform the design of future collaborative research initiatives. By grounding potential projects in the unique environmental and socio-economic context of Mindanao, both institutions aim to co-develop solutions that are locally relevant and globally significant.
This visit is an important milestone in building stronger ties between MSU at Naawan and its international partners. It opened meaningful conversations and connections that we hope will lead to lasting collaboration with Kastamonu University. Through this partnership, we aim to expand our research capabilities, support faculty and student exchanges, and continue pursuing academic excellence together.
