On January 31, 2025, Mindanao State University at Naawan welcomed Mr. Udo Cenkowsky, an esteemed Organic Aquaculture consultant and director of Bluesensus - Sustainability & Seafood Consulting from Germany, to the Office of the Chancellor for a fisheries program aimed at enhancing sustainable aquaculture practices.
The meeting was attended by the University Chancellor Dr. Elnor C. Roa, Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Global Engagement Dr. Rey Y. Capangpangan, Dean of the School of Marine Fisheries and Technology Dr. Dan M. Arriesgado, and representatives from the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte.

As a Center of Excellence in Fisheries, MSU at Naawan expressed its commitment to collaborating on this initiative, particularly in addressing fish diseases affecting important aquaculture species such as tilapia and bangus (milkfish).
Discussions also revolved around innovations in fish cage culture, a method that enhances fish production while ensuring sustainability. The university’s expertise in fisheries science and technology aligns with the objectives of Kauswagan’s organic aquaculture efforts, opening doors for research collaborations and knowledge-sharing opportunities.
The university looks forward to further cooperation with Mr. Cenkowsky and the LGU of Kauswagan in advancing responsible aquaculture practices that benefit local communities and the environment.
