MSUN faculty researchers joins prestigious Sao Paulo School on Biodiversity Assessment

Mr. Kaent Immanuel N. Uba, a distinguished faculty member from the School of Marine Fisheries and Technology at Mindanao State University at Naawan, was recently selected to attend the prestigious São Paulo School of Advanced Science on Co-designing Biodiversity Assessments. Held from October 28 to November 8, 2024, the intensive 10-day program took place at São Pedro, in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, and brought together leading young scientists from across the globe.

The program, offered by the Institute of Biology at the University of Campinas and sponsored by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), is highly competitive, admitting only 30 international participants alongside 30 Brazilian candidates. Mr. Uba's selection for the program, with full funding support, is a testament to his academic merit and research potential.

The São Paulo School's goal is to equip emerging scientists with the skills to analyze biodiversity data across taxonomic, evolutionary, functional, and sociocultural dimensions. The program was designed to prepare participants to contribute to robust environmental policies and action plans. Lectures and workshops were led by a mix of ecologists, policymakers, and representatives from NGOs and the private sector, fostering a well-rounded approach to biodiversity assessment.

Throughout the workshop, Mr. Uba and his peers engaged in collaborative projects addressing practical demands in biodiversity analysis. The program enabled participants to broaden their networks and explore potential research partnerships.

Reflecting on his experience, Mr. Uba shared that the program provided an invaluable platform for skill enhancement and knowledge exchange, which will be instrumental in his academic journey. He also noted that it offered a unique opportunity to establish connections for future research collaborations

MSUN takes pride in Mr. Uba's participation in this globally renowned program, reinforcing the university's commitment to advancing environmental research and fostering expertise that contributes to sustainable development.
